The 5th edition of the European Robotic Urology Symposium that took place from 10-12 September in Prague, Czech Republic, has once again turned into a great success.
The brand new Clarion Congress Hotel welcomed almost 500 urologists, experts, residents and healthcare professionals from all over the world - 35 different countries - attending live-surgeries from the Central Military Hospital Prague, round-table discussions, lectures, poster and video presentations. This number exceeded last year’s attendance record by 50%!
The ERUS’08 congress has provided the ultimate educational experience for both basic and advanced surgeons, with a focus on the technical aspects of robotic surgery as well as on its theoretical issues and outcomes.
On the first day, three well-designed courses were given on robotic surgery in urology, elucidating step-by-step procedures and practical tips & tricks; almost 200 urologists participated.
On day two and three, 10 surgeries performed by international top-surgeons were transmitted live in Full High Definition from the Military Hospital to the Congress Hotel. A wide variety of already established procedures were shown, but also new robotic surgical techniques for minimal invasive surgery were proposed, covering prostatectomies, nephrectomies, pyeloplasties, ureterectomies, cystectomies and others, all triggering lively debates.
The social events were once again the perfect occasions for keeping up contacts and establishing new ones. The Welcome Diner at the Mayor’s Residence and the Gala Diner in the Rothmayer Hall of Prague Castle were extraordinary settings for highly enjoyable social talks.
We greatly thank you for having turned this year’s edition into a heartwarming event and we sincerely hope that the ERUS’08 in Prague indeed proved to be an educational and social experience for each one of you.
Our special thanks go to all industry sponsors and Intuitive Surgical in particular for facilitating this outstanding meeting.
Looking at the year to year increasing number of participants, it is clear that there definitely is a need for organizing an annual forum where the latest state-of-the-art developments in robotic urological surgery are highlighted. We therefore extend our warm invitation to you and your colleagues to join us again in 2009, in wonderful Venice, Italy!
